Sophomore pole vaulter DJ Horton was named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the IUP Sports Information Office on Monday, May 1.

Horton also experienced a record-breaking weekend, setting a new IUP men's outdoor mark in the pole vault by clearing a height of 5.20 meters at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

Horton punched his ticket to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships as his finish was an automatic qualifying height. He actually broke his own record of 5.10 meters that he set last spring. Saturday's mark was good for an official third place finish in the event.

He'll be making his third straight NCAA Track & Field Championship appearance (outdoor-indoor-outdoor) later this month and will be looking for his third career All-American honor.
