Sophomore receiver
Duane Brown and senior golfer Jeremy Eckenrode were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday afternoon.
This is the first IUP weekly honor for each student-athlete.
Brown helped the lead the 19th-ranked Crimson Hawks to a come from behind 56-24 victory at Mercyhurst Saturday, totaling 184 yards and four touchdowns in the game.
The sophomore wideout had an all-action day which saw him make seven catches for 153 yards and three touchdowns to go along with seven rushing yards including, a three yard rushing score, and a punt return of 24 yards.
In total Brown had 12 touches in the victory to contributing 184 yards of offense to the IUP cause. He played a critical role in helping IUP to recover from a 24-21 deficit in the game, scoring three straight touchdowns through the second and third quarters to help IUP to take a 42-24 lead into the fourth.
Brown's three touchdown receptions included a 75-yard score in the first quarter. He averaged 21.9 yards per catch against the Lakers.
Eckenrode began the week by earning the best finish of any IUP golfer at the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational on Monday, September 23rd. Eckenrode finished tied for second overall with a 5-over 149. He shot a 2-over 74 in the first round and followed that with a 75 on Monday. The second place finish was the best of his career.
Eckenrode was back in action this weekend at the Snowshoe Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Eckenrode finished the first round in three-way tie for IUP's best round with a 3-over 75 on the day. That score was good for ninth overall, five strokes back of individual leader Alex Easthom of West Liberty, who shot a 2-under 70.
