Ally Long Makes NCAA B Cut; IUP Swimmers Set Seven Pool Records in Sweep of Wheeling Jesuit

IUP swimmers set seven pool records and Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) earned an NCAA B cut to lead the Crimson Hawks to a dual meet victory over Wheeling Jesuit. The IUP women won 125-75 while the men took a 109-91 victory over the Cardinals.

Long posted a time of 10:45.64 in making the B cut in the 1000 freestyle, one of 10 event wins for the IUP women. Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) both had the top times in two events, with Mitidieri setting pool records in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.84) and 200 individual medley (2:12.53). Janosky took first in the 100 freestyle (55.68) and 200 freestyle (1:58.64).

Pool records were also set by Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) in the 50 freestyle (24.28) and Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) in the 200 backstroke (2:08.76) and the 200 medley relay team of Hynson, Mitidieri, McAteer and Katie Lehman (Cary, NC/Green Hope) (1:51.94) and the 200 freestyle relay team of McAteer, Hynson, Lauren Alshouse (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley) and Nikki Newman (Meadville/Meadville) (1:40.98).

Chanele Molano (Centreville, VA/Westfield) rounded out the IUP women's winners with a time of 5:24.31 in the 500 freestyle.

On the men's side, the 200 medley relay team of Rudy da Costa (Durbin, South Africa/Westville), Nate Stephens, Stephen Long and Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) set a pool record in a winning time of 1:39.25, with da Costa also touching first in the 200 individual medley (1:59.85) and 200 backstroke (1:57.94).

Dylan Mudlo (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) joined da Costa with two event wins, taking the 200 freestyle (1:47.74) and 200 butterfly (2:01.36). Smith finished first in the 50 freestyle (22.18), Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) won the 100 freestyle (48.85), and McWhorter, Long, Mudlo and Josh Huger (King George, Va./King George) won the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.33).

IUP is back in action Nov. 18-20 when it hosts the Jack Pidgeon Invitational.
