Track & Field and Swimming Volunteers for YMCA Strong Kids

INDIANA, PA – The IUP track & field and swim teams volunteered for the YMCA Strong Kids 5K run and 2-mile Fun Walk for Kids September 7 at Blue Spruce Park.

Sponsored by the YMCA of Indiana County, the event benefitted the Strong Kids Campaign Annual Fund of the YMCA of Indiana County.

Members of the two teams set up the event, prepared snacks and refreshments for the participants and guided runners along the course.

The Strong Kids Campaign allows children, regardless of financial need, to take part in life enhancing programs that will build health, spirit, mind and body. According to the YMCA of Indiana County, one in three children in the Indiana community live at or below the national poverty level guidelines. The money raised at the 5K run and 2-mile Fun Walk goes to help provide the YMCA's services to those children and their families.

The men's and women's swim teams will kick off their season October 19 in Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Invitational. The indoor track & field season will begin December 7 at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
