Friday's Results and Team Scores
Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and
Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) finished 1-2 in the women's 400 individual medley and posted NCAA B cut times in the event to lead the IUP swim team's performance during the second day of the Pidgeon Invitational.
Mitidieri earned the first win of the meet for the Crimson Hawks with her time of 4:37.33 in the 400 IM while Hynson was just behind in 4:40.19. Both swimmers have B cut times in four events so far this season, with Mitidieri qualifying in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, and Hynson also making the mark in the 200 IM as well as the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke.
Hynson was also second in the 100 backstroke (59.54), Mitidieri was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.67) and
Katie Lehman (Cary, NC/Green Hope) was second in the 100 butterfly (59.43).
Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ),
Lauren Alshouse (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley),
Bethany Johnston (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and
Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) combined to finished second in the 800 freestyle relay (7:58.43) and Hynson, Mitidieri, Lehman and
Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) were third in the 200 medley relay (1:50.70).
The men turned in three second place finishes. In the 400 IM,
Rudy da Costa (Durbin, South Africa/Westville) was the runner-up with a time of 4:13.54, just ahead of teammate
Dylan Mudlo (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) (4:14.58). Stephen Long was second in the 100 butterfly (53.17) and the squad of Mudlo,
Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale),
Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) and
Luke Shaheen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) was second in the 800 freestyle relay (7:08.40).
da Costa also turned in a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.94) and joined Long, Smith and Nate Stephens in placing third in the 200 medley relay (1:39.54).
The IUP women lead the field with 760 points, well ahead of second-place California, which has 612.5 points. The men have 732 points and trail only Wheeling Jesuit with 859. The three-day event wraps up Saturday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 3 p.m.
