Jackie Hynson, Rudy da Costa Take Event Titles on Final Day of Pidgeon Invitational

Jackie Hynson set meet records in the 200 fly and 200 back

Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) won two events and set meet records in both and Rudy da Costa (Durbin, South Africa/Westville) added a victory in the men's competition on the final day of the Pidgeon Invitational at the John A. Pidgeon Natatorium.

The IUP women won with 1,077 points, almost 200 ahead of California. The men totaled 980 points to finish second behind Wheeling Jesuit.

Hynson won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.78 and also broke the meet record with a winning time of 2:04.31 in the 200 butterfly. The junior was an All-American in both events last season and had already earned NCAA B cuts in both this year.

da Costa picked up the only win for the IUP men during the three-day meet, besting the field in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.60. Teammate Kyle Ford (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) was two spots behind in 2:04.03.

The men also had three second-place finishes, including Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) in the 100 freestyle (48.01) and Dylan Mudlo (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) in the 200 butterfly (1:58.26). McWhorter and Mudlo were joined by Stephen Long and Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) in taking second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:11.88.

Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), who won the 400 individual medley Friday, took third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:26.37, and Chanele Molano (Centreville, VA/Westfield) was third in the 1650 freestyle in 18:27.37. The team of Lauren Alshouse (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley), Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ), Bethany Johnston (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) was third in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:38.08.

Both IUP teams return to the pool Dec. 3-5 at the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron.
