Sunday Results and Final Team Scores

Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) finished second in the 200 backstroke and recorded an NCAA A cut and four other IUP swimmers posted B cut times on the final day of the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron.

Hynson had a time of 2:02.50 to become the first IUP swimmer to gain an A cut and guarantee a spot at the NCAA meet in March. She will be making her second appearance at nationals after finishing third in both the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly last season.

Hynson added a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.83.

Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) both had B cut times on the women's side while Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) and Rudy da Costa (Durbin, South Africa/Westville) did so for the Crimson Hawk men.

Long had a time of 18:01.89 in the 1650 freestyle and McAteer swam a time of 52.32 in the 100 freestyle to finish in fifth place. Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) set a school record in the 200 breaststroke and took third place with a time of 2:22.08.

McWhorter led off the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 46.31 to make the B cut time in the 100 freestyle, and da Costa reached the standard in the 200 backstroke with a fifth-place time of 1:54.83.

McWhorter teamed with Dylan Mudlo (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning), Josh Huger (King George, Va./King George) and Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) to finish fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:08.34, just a half second shy of the school record. David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) was fifth in the 1650 freestyle in 16:40.40.

Both IUP teams are back in action Jan. 5 vs. Nova Southeastern in Davie, Fla., as part of their annual southern spring trip.
