Darryl Webb (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) scored 14 points and pulled down 15 boards for his 44th career double-double in the Crimson Hawks 65-45 win over Gannon in their PSAC West opener at Memorial Field House Wednesday night.
Webb is now just seven points behind Eddie Peterson for second in school history. His 15 rebounds came one night after he became the first player in school-history to reach 1,000.
Julian Sanders (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added 16 points, including shooting 4 of 8 from 3-point range, to go with three boards.
Ashton Smith (Scarborough, ON/West Hill Collegiate) chipped in 14 points, three rebounds and four assists.
The Crimson Hawks took a slim 34-30 lead into the half, but scored the first 11 points of the second half to break open the game.
IUP gave up just 15 points in the second half, and just nine until Gannon hit two 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the game.
The Golden Knights led 24-20 with 5:15 to play in the first half, but the Crimson Hawks used a 14-6 run, including 3-pointers on back to back possessions by Smith to build a four point lead at the half.
IUP won its eighth straight PSAC West conference opener and is now 25-4 in the conference over the past three seasons.
The Crimson Hawks continue conference play when they host Slippery Rock Saturday at 7:30 at Memorial Field House.
