Behind a game-high 26 points from
Julian Sanders (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) the Crimson Hawks bounced back with 86-71 victory over Edinboro Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
Sanders made a career high 10 baskets including four three pointers as well as grabbing three rebounds.
Ashton Smith (Scarborough, ON/West Hill Collegiate) followed up a career night with 21 points and dished out six assists. Smith passed Phil Crim to move into ninth on the all-time assists list with 313.
Darryl Webb (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) posted his fifth consecutive double-double, the 48th of his career, with 17 points and 11 boards. Webb is now just 10 points from passing Robert Misenko as the top scorer in IUP history.
With 3:15 to play in the first half the score was tied for the 11th time 30-30, but IUP used a 7-0 run before Chris Klimchock hit a 3-pointer for Edinboro to send the Crimson Hawks into the locker room with a 37-33 lead.
The Crimson Hawk s opened the second half on a 10-2 run, including five points from Sanders, to build the lead to 47-35 with 15:23 to play.
The Fighting Scots were able to cut the lead to seven at several points in the second half the last coming at the 5:15 mark after a Danny Walsh 3-pointer made the score 71-64.
IUP responded with a 15-7 run to close the game out which included shooting 7 of 8 from the charity stripe in the final 1:33.
Cory Somerville, Anthony Lytle and Walsh all scored 13 points for Edinboro. Lytle grabbed seven rebounds and Somerville pulled down six boards.
The Crimson Hawks continue their four game road trip when they travel to Mercyhurst in a battle for the top spot in the PSAC West.
