IUP Swimmers Win Eight Events in Opening Session of Crimson Hawk Dual Invite

Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) won the 50 freestyle while lowering her NCAA B cut time and also swam legs on two victorious relay teams to highlight the IUP performance on the opening day of the Crimson Hawk Dual Invite at the John A. Pidgeon Natatorium.

McAteer had a time of 23.65 in the 50 freestyle to improve her nation ranking in the event. She teamed with Lauren Alshouse (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley), Kala Misavage (Danville/Danville) and Christina Janovsky in winning the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.40) and Misavage, Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) and Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) in taking the 400 medley relay (4:01.44).

Alshouse led a Crimson Hawk sweep of the top three spots in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.35, finishing ahead of Janovsky (5:15.95) and Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) (5:16.07). Mitidieri was also an individual event winner, touching first in the 200 IM in 2:12.18.

Dylan Mudlo (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) and Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) were event winners for the men's team. Mudlo took first in the 200 IM in 2:00.48, edging teammate Rudy da Costa (Durbin, South Africa/Westville) by .27. McWhorter captured the 50 freestyle in 21.73, a margin of .64 over fellow Crimson Hawk Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale).

Mudlo, McWhorter, Smith and Josh Huger (King George, Va./King George) formed the winning team in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.05.

The two-day event wraps up Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
