Julian Sanders (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored a game-high 22 points but had a potential game-tying 3-pointer come up short as time expired in the Crimson Hawks 72-69 loss at Mansfield in PSAC crossover action Tuesday night.

IUP (7-3) trailed by three with :12 to go after Kyle Bradley made 1 of 2 free throws. Darryl Webb (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) put up a 3-pointer with :10 on the clock. Ashton Smith (Scarborough, ON/West Hill Collegiate) grabbed the rebound and kicked it out for Sanders' 3-pointer that bounced high off the rim to set the final.

The Mounties (7-3) built their largest lead of the night 69-59 with 2:32 following a 14-5 run starting at 7:51.

The Crimson Hawks answered with a 10-3 run getting seven from Sanders, including two of his three 3-pointers, before the flurry in the final seconds.

IUP held a slim lead 21-20 lead with 8:27 left in the first half but Mansfield stormed back and took a 37-35 halftime lead that it never gave back.

In addition to Sanders, Webb also reached double-digit scoring with 16 points moving him past Jack Crossan for third on IUP's all-time scoring list with 1,573 career points. Webb also pulled down eight rebounds and added two helpers.

Ashton Smith (Scarborough, ON/West Hill Collegiate) was the third Crimson Hawk player in double figures with 13 points and added six rebounds and four assists.

The Mounties had three scorers in double figures. Yuseff Carr led the way with 15 points and seven boards. Charles Harper added 13 points and Tony Fannick chipped in 10 points.

The Crimson Hawks return home Saturday to host East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m. at Memorial Field House.
