Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and
Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) gave up just five hits in two games as the Crimson Hawks knocked off Adelphi 4-0 and Caldwell 5-0 in the final two games of their spring trip.
Against Adelphi the Crimson Hawks picked up two runs in the second inning. Stefanie Poates led off the inning with her second homerun of the year. After a ground out
Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville) doubled and scored on a
Raquel Rugani (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour ) single.
IUP picked up three insurance runs in the top of the seventh keyed by
Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) single with the bases loaded that plated two.
King pitched seven innings and struck out five and no walks to pick up the win and improve to 4-1 on the season.
Holloway starred in the second game pitching a complete game shutout allowing just two hits and struck out seven. The seven strike outs put Holloway over 800 for her career and now has 805.
The Crimson Hawks got Holloway all the runs she needed in the second inning.
Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) led off the inning with a double and scored on a
Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) double.
Dee Eppinger (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) drove in Ward with a single.
Ashley Strack (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) scored the final run of the inning on an errant throw to second base.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 10-2 on the season and are back in action Wednesday when they host California at 2:30 at South Campus Field.
