The No. 25 Crimson Hawks used one big inning in both games on Friday to earn a pair of wins, 7-0 over West Virginia State in the first game and a 4-2 victory over Charleston in the nightcap.

Against West Virginia State the Crimson Hawks scored five times in the top of the seventh to blow open the game. Monica Iachini (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) led off the inning with one of her three hits in the game. Marissa Leslie (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) belted a single before Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) connected on her second homerun of the year. Later in the inning Jen Beaver (Chester Springs/Owen J. Roberts) also went yard to set the final.

Two other IUP hitters recorded multiple hits in addition to Iachini. McCormick finished 2 for 4 and Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) finished 2 of 3 with one run batted in.

Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) cruised through the Yellow Jacket lineup pitching seven shutout innings and only allowed two hits and struck out four. She improves to 5-1 in the circle.

In the second game of the evening IUP took advantage of several Charleston miscues to score four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win.

Iachini reached second on an error by the pitcher. After outs by the next two batters the Crimson Hawks strung together four straight hits keyed by a Tunno double.

Charleston scored twice in the top of the fourth on three straight two-out hits. Logan Tretick knocked in both runs with a two out single.

Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) improved to 7-1 in the circle allowing two runs on four hits in seven innings of work striking out 11 batters.

The Crimson Hawks continue action in Salem Virginia Saturday when they play a pair of games against Glenville State and Wheeling Jesuit.
