Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) and
Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) combined for a pair of shutout wins over Mansfield in the conference opener for both teams. The Hawks grabbed game one 3-0 and game two 2-0 Tuesday afternoon.
In game one Holloway pitched seven inning allowing just two hits while striking out 12 batters and walking just one. Holloway now has 832 career strikeouts which tops the IUP record book and is good for fourth in PSAC history just 50 back of California's Danielle Penner.
The Crimson Hawk offense did just enough scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth.
Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville) led off the inning with a hit then advanced on a sacrifice bunt and then advance to third on a
Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) infield single.
Dee Eppinger (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) broke the scoreless tie with a sac fly.
Jen Beaver (Chester Springs/Owen J. Roberts) ripped a two out double and later scored on a
Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) single.
Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) picked up the win in game two and ran her record to 7-1 on the season pitching seven shutout innings striking out six, yielding four walks and allowing four hits.
The IUP offense once again found a timely hit from Eppinger a two out single that plated Bivona and
Raquel Rugani (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour ).
The Crimson Hawks have won nine straight games and take their winning streak to Clarion on Friday for another PSAC Central matchup.
