Darryl Webb Named Division II Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches

Darryl Webb was twice selected an All-American during his career at IUP

For the first time in school history, an IUP men's basketball player has been named the national player of the year when Darryl Webb (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) was given that honor by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

This marks the second straight year Webb has been honored by the NABC as a member of the State Farm Coaches' All-America team. As the player of the year, Webb will take part in the Division I Final Four weekend and will be recognized at the NABC awards ceremony Sunday.

Webb also competed in the Reese's Division II College All-Star Game as part of the Elite Eight activities and finished with nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in 18 minutes for the East team. Both of his field goals were 3-pointers and he was 3 for 4 from the line.

Previously this postseason, Webb was named the PSAC West Player of the Year and earned his third straight berth on the all-conference first team. He was the MVP of the PSAC tournament and was on the Atlantic Region all-tournament team, leading the Crimson Hawks to the championship game before losing to West Liberty despite Webb's 23 points and 16 rebounds.

Webb averaged a double-double this season with 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, ranking in the top 10 in the nation in the latter category, and also paced the Crimson Hawks with 47 blocked shots, shot 49.6 percent from the field and added 29 steals and 52 assists.

He finished his career as the all-time IUP career leader in games played (126), points (1,949), rebounds (1,214), field goals made (708) and attempted (1,418) and blocked shots (162). He is second in free throws made (443) and attempted (686) and ranks fifth in steals (136). Webb had a total of 54 double-doubles in his career.

A year ago as a junior, Webb was selected to the NABC and Division II Bulletin All-America teams, named the MVP of the Atlantic Region tournament and was on the Elite 8 all-tournament team when he helped the Crimson Hawks set a school record with 33 wins and reach the national championship game for the first time in school history.

Webb was the PSAC West Freshman of the Year and a second team all-conference selection in 2008. After IUP went 13-15 in his redshirt freshman season, the Crimson Hawks went 81-17 over the past three years, including back-to-back PSAC West and PSAC tournament titles and three trips to the NCAA tournament, including last year's run to the title game.
