The Crimson Hawks used offense in the opener and a great pitching performance from Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) in the second to extend their school-record winning streak to 13 games with a doubleheader sweep at Clarion in PSAC Central action.

The Crimson Hawks (21-2, 4-0 PSAC Central) used big innings in the sixth and seventh to take a 13-4 win in game one and then held off a Clarion (5-7, 0-4) rally to earn a 4-2 win in game two.

IUP jumped out early in game one with three runs in the top of the first inning. Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) singled home Marissa Leslie (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel). Stephanie Poates connected on her fourth home run of the season to plate McCormick and give IUP a 3-0 lead.

The Crimson Hawks scored runs in the second and the fourth to open up a 5-0 lead before the Golden Eagles scored four runs in the fifth inning on home runs by Carlie Cook and Kaylynn Barco.

In the sixth IUP answered with five runs to blow open the game taking advantage of three Clarion errors and a Jen Beaver (Chester Springs/Owen J. Roberts) two-run, two-out double. Beaver drove home two more runs in the seventh to put the game away.

Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) improved to 12-1 on the season giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits, while striking out eight and walking just one.

In game two Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) pitched a seven inning gem allowing two runs only one earned on five hits, with eight strikeouts and no walks to improve to 9-1 in the circle.

Dee Epinger provided the big inning with one swing in the second inning when she connected on a three-run home run, her second of the season, to give IUP a 3-0 lead.

The Crimson Hawks added an insurance run in the third when Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) doubled and scored on Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville) single.

Clarion was able to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning on three straight singles but the IUP defense held off the rally to preserve the win.

The Crimson Hawks continue PSAC Central play when they visit Lock Haven Friday.
