Kelsey Ferguson (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and
Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) homered to back the pitching of
Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) in a 7-2 win over Southern Indiana, and Ferguson added three RBIs in an 8-1 victory over Edinboro on the first day of the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Crimson Hawks are 3-1 on the season and play 10 more games in Florida over the next seven days.
Ferguson hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to secure the win over Southern Indiana after the Screaming Eagles broke through against Holloway for two runs in the sixth to pull within 3-2. Holloway earned her second win of the year, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out 11.
Holloway struck out the side in the first and third innings and has 20 strikeouts in her first two starts of the season.
IUP jumped out in front in the first when
Marissa Leslie (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error on a steal by
Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley). The Crimson Hawks made it 3-0 in the fifth on an infield hit by
Monica Iachini (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) and a two-run homer by McCormick.
In IUP's second game of the day, Edinboro took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third against
Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) before the freshman blanked the Fighting Scots the rest of the way for her first college win. King allowed five hits and struck out five in the complete game effort.
The Crimson Hawks quickly took the lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run double by
Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton). IUP added a run in the fourth when
Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) walked, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville).
Ferguson drove in two more runs with a fifth inning single, and a McCormick two-run double highlighted a three-run sixth that put the game out of reach.
IUP plays twice on Sunday with games against Northwood at 9 a.m. and St. Cloud State and 1 p.m.
