IUP could not capitalize on several early scoring chances in a 5-2 loss in the first game before Bloomsburg stunned the Crimson Hawks with a four-run rally in the seventh to complete the sweep with a 5-4 victory in a crossover doubleheader Sunday.

IUP (12-16) stranded nine runners against three Husky pitchers in the opener, including three in the second and two each in the first and fourth. Jerry Lloyd drove in all four runs for Bloomsburg (11-11), and his two-run single in the fifth came after the Crimson Hawks pulled within 3-2 in the top of the inning on a Tyler Mroz (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) home run.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the second and made it 3-0 in the fourth on a two-run homer by Lloyd. Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) led off the IUP fifth by reaching on an error before Mroz slammed his first college home run.

Greg Stewart (Kittanning/Elderton) went three innings on the mound for the Crimson Hawks, allowing three hits and three runs – two earned – while striking out three. Mike Rossetti earned the win with four innings of shutout ball.

Vern Powell (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca), Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) and Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) each delivered two-out RBI hits in the nightcap to help IUP build a 3-1 lead after six innings. The Crimson Hawks added another run in the seventh on consecutive singles by Zinsmeister, Frank Sirolli (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and Powell to take a 4-1 advantage into Bloomsburg's last at bat.

But Stephen Cooke (Severn, MD/Archbishop Curley), who relieved starter Chris Douglas (Canonsburg/Canon-McMillan) in the sixth, allowed three singles to make it 4-2, and Lloyd again played the role of hero, blasting a three-run homer to right center to give the Huskies the sweep.

Zinsmeister and Powell both had three hits in the second game, with Zinsmeister scoring three times and Powell driving in two. Douglas allowed three hits and struck out three while working into the sixth inning.

The Crimson Hawks return to PSAC West play with a doubleheader Friday at Mercyhurst and home against the Lakers the following day.
