The Crimson Hawk softball team rallied in the opener of their doubleheader to earn a 3-2 victory but dropped the second game 6-2 to earn a split with No. 7 Bloomsburg in PSAC Central action Thursday afternoon at Podbielski Field.
IUP trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out
Marissa Leslie (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) and
Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) were hit by pitches. Stephanie Poates plated Leslie with a double to right field.
Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) ripped a single scoring McCormick and pinch-runner
Taylor Rozantz (Fairview/Fairview).
Bloomsburg scored in the third and fourth on lead off home runs by Lori Neyhard and Sam Pientack.
Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) picked up the win and improved to 14-1 on the season. She allowed two runs, both earned, on four hits striking out three and walking two.
In the second game the Huskies jumped out in the third inning scoring three runs off of IUP starter
Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) on a Lacy Mauro three-run homer. Bloomsburg extended its lead to 6-0 with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth.
The Crimson Hawks answered with two runs in the sixth on a McCormick two-run two out bomb after a Leslie single.
Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) took the loss in the circle pitching five innings allowing six runs, all earned, while giving up nine hits with one strikeout and one walk.
On Saturday the Crimson Hawks will continue conference play when they host Clarion at 1:00.
