Nafee Harris and Brianna Liebold gained spots on the All-America team in the long jump on the first day of the NCAA Division II track and field championships in Turlock, Calif.
Harris finished second to earn All-America status for the seventh time in his career. He had a top jump of 25 feet, 10 inches and finished 3 ½ inches behind winner Giorgio Bryant of Cal State Los Angeles.
Harris won the national championship in the long jump in his last four trips to nationals, including twice in the indoor and outdoor meets. He was fifth in the event at the 2009 indoor meet and was part of IUP's eighth-place team in the 4 x 100 relay at the 2009 outdoor meet.
Liebold finished eighth in the high jump, edging teammate Laurie Ajavon by two inches for the final spot on the All-America team. Liebold had a best effort of 19-2 ¾ and is an All-American for the third time, following a third-place finish at the 2010 indoor meet and sixth at the indoor championships in March.
The meet continues Friday and Saturday with Liebold also competing in the triple jump and Leander Toney entered in the high jump.
