LOCK HAVEN, PA –
Shannon Sullivan (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) scored two goals as the IUP field hockey team defeated sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon.
IUP, ranked eighth in the NFHCA Coach's Poll, got on the board just 10 minutes into the game when Sullivan received a pass from
Jillian Duld (Allentown/Parkland) and found the back of the cage. East Stroudsburg would respond late in the first half, when Michelle Tewell set up Amanda McGuire for the tying goal.
The game would remain scoreless until the 63:17 mark when Sullivan finished off a great cross from
Megan O'Donnell (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) to give the Crimson Hawks a 2-1 lead. From there, the IUP defense took control and salted away the victory.
Sarah Lemieux (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) played all 70 minutes and had eight saves.
Sullivan leads the Crimson Hawks in points this season with six goals and two assists, while
Anouk Sickman (Antwerp, Belgium/Lazac Cellepe) has three goals and an assist. Lemeiux has 18 saves in three games in goal for IUP.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Mansfield.
