INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP field hockey team moved to No. 8 in the latest NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.
The Crimson Hawks are coming off a weekend matchup against top-ranked Kutztown, falling 4-0 to the Golden Bears on the road. The result moved IUP to 1-1 against top-10 opponents this season.
IUP will have a pair of opportunities this week to build on its strong start, traveling to Frostburg State on Wednesday before returning home to face Millersville on Sunday.
Both matchups are rematches from earlier this season.
The Crimson Hawks faced Frostburg State in a nonconference matchup in September, rallying from a three-goal deficit to force overtime. IUP completed the comeback on the final play of regulation before the Bobcats eventually prevailed in a shootout.
IUP also earned a 2-1 overtime victory against then-No. 10 Millersville earlier this season. The Crimson Hawks scored two unanswered goals in the comeback victory, capped by Kasey Rieger's game-winner in overtime.
IUP enters the week with a 6-2 overall record under first-year head coach Stephen Hamill.
