INDIANA, Pa. – Following an overtime victory in its first top-10 matchup of the season, the unbeaten IUP field hockey team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll.
The Crimson Hawks are off to a 5-0 start under first-year head coach Stephen Hamill, marking the program's first 5-0 start since 2021.
IUP moved up from No. 8 after earning a 2-1 overtime road victory over then-No. 10 Millersville on Saturday. Sophomore Kasey Rieger provided the game-winner, finding the cage less than three minutes into overtime to keep the Crimson Hawks unbeaten.
IUP has steadily climbed the national rankings during its strong start to the season. The Crimson Hawks entered the poll at No. 10 before moving to No. 8 and now No. 7.
The PSAC continues to dominate the national rankings, occupying eight of the top 10 spots for the second consecutive week.
Kutztown jumped Shippensburg to take over the No. 1 spot nationally, giving the PSAC the top two teams in the country.
Through five matches, IUP has combined its offensive production with a stingy defensive effort, outscoring its opponents 22-2 while recording three shutouts.
The Crimson Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 26, hosting Frostburg State at George P. Miller Stadium.
