INDIANA, PA -
Jillian Duld (Allentown/Parkland) scored the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime as the Crimson Hawks defeated seventh-ranked Kutztown 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
IUP (5-1, 2-0 PSAC East) found themselves down early when Jenna Gregory scored just three minutes into the game, but
Anouk Sickman (Antwerp, Belgium/Lazac Cellepe) drilled a game-tying goal eight minutes later. The Golden Bears would once again gain the upper hand with 11:09 left in the first half when Jamie Koenig scored off of Elly Skinner's second assist of the day. The lead would not stand for long, however, as Sickman set up
Shannon Sullivan (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) for the goal. Kutztown would again take the lead just before the half when Emily Labowitz scored off of a Gregory assist.
Trailing at the half, the Crimson Hawks came out strong to begin the second and knotted the game at 3-3 when
Hannah Zeiber (Exeter/Exeter) scored her first career goal off of an
Erin Shirk (Paradise/Pequea Valley) assist. The IUP defense was stellar in the second half, allowing just five shots in the period.
Sudden death overtime was shortlived, because
Jillian Duld (Allentown/Parkland) received a great pass from
Alicia Straining (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and found the back of the cage with 9:23 left to play in the first overtime. The goal was the first game-winner in Duld's career at IUP.
Goalkeeper
Brittany Varacallo (New Britain/Central Bucks South) started the game for the Crimson Hawks and had three saves.
Sarah Lemieux (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) played the second half and overtime and had four saves.
IUP travels to Shippensburg this Wednesday before returning home to host Mercyhurst on Saturday, September 24, at 1:00 p.m.
