Nick Patton (Canton/Canton) finished in third place individually to help the IUP men's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.
Patton finished with a time of 25:55 in the 8k race, 15 seconds behind the leader.
It was the second consecutive week Patton finished as the top IUP runner, coming in 11th place last week at Lehigh's Paul Short Run.
Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) wasn't far behind Patton, finishing fifth overall with a time of 26:06.
Along with Patton and Costello, five other IUP runners finished in the top 50, including
Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del/Salesianum), who came in 21st with a time of 27:09.
Tim Lynch (Harleysville, Pa. /Souderton) finished in 29th with a time of 27:36 while
Andrew Morgan (Gold, Pa. /Northern Potter) came in 34th with a time of 27:48.
Joey Franze (Wexford, Pa. /North Allegheny) and
Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) were IUP's sixth and seventh finishers, respectively, finishing in 44th and 46th place overall. Franze posted a time of 28:13 while Beaudette finished in 28:17.
This was the final tune-up before the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks. That will be run on Oct. 26 in Kutztown.
