KUTZTOWN, PA – Finishing in 10th place, senior
Nick Patton (Canton/Canton) led the IUP men's cross country team to a seventh place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in Kuztown.
Patton crossed the line at the 25:58.1 mark, just three seconds behind Morgan Elliot of Slippery Rock.
Coming in second for the Crimson Hawks and 31st overall,
Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) finished the 8k course with a time of 26:40.4, followed closely behind by
Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del/Salesianum) who claimed 39th place with a time of 26:53.9.
Rounding out the top five for IUP was freshman
Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) with a time of 27:31.1 and
Clinton Keller (Wernersville/Conrad Weiser) with a time of 27:37.0. Beaudette finished in 56th place and Keller took 58th.
Tim Lynch (Harleysville, Pa. /Souderton),
Andrew Morgan (Gold, Pa. /Northern Potter),
Dalton Trump (Lancaster, Pa. /J.P. McCaskey),
Joey Franze (Wexford, Pa. /North Allegheny) and
Porter Mitchell (Danville, Pa. /Danville) also competed for the Crimson Hawks, finishing 67th, 79th, 87th, 93rd and 100th, respectively.
The Crimson Hawks finished with 186 total points, 32 behind sixth place finisher East Stroudsburg.
Lock Haven claimed the team victory in the competition, finishing with 37 total points and three runners in the top ten, followed by Edinboro and Shippensburg to round out the top three.Â
The men will have one final race before the Atlantic Region Championships, taking part in the Lock Haven RIver Run next weekend in Lock Haven. The Atlantic Region Championships will get underway Nov. 9 at 12 p.m., also in Lock Haven.
