AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks look to continue their win-streak as they play host to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference newcomer Pitt-Johnstown in their first PSAC action of the 2013-14 season. IUP is riding a two-game win-streak to open up its year. Pitt-Johnstown has also had a good start to the season, winning their first two contests by an average of 41.5 points. The Crimson Hawks hold the all-time series record winning 31 of the 47 games played.
FROM THE TOP LOOKING DOWN
Following his career-high 30-point game over West Virginia Wesleyan and a 25-point performance against Notre Dame (Ohio), Sr. G
Mathis Keita (Thionville, France/Insep) was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week. The Frenchman is averaging a conference-high 27.5 points per game and is third in the conference in field goal percentage (.833) and three-point field goal percentage (.667). Last year's PSAC Tournament MVP, he is leading the Crimson Hawks in nearly every offensive and defensive category.
TEN FOR EVERYONE
In each of their last two games, four players have finished with double-digit scoring. Against West Virginia Wesleyan, Keita, Sr. F
Marcel Souberbielle (Montevideo, Uruguay/Uruguayan American School), Jr. G
Devante Chance (Philadelphia, Pa. /Electrical & Technology Charter) and R-Jr. G
Jeremy Jeffers (Wilson, N.C./Greenfield School) were all in double figures. Keita, Souberbielle, Chance and R-So.
Devon Cottrell (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Gateway) all finished upwards of ten points.
OFF TO THE RACES
IUP is off to one of its best starts this season, averaging an outstanding 83 points per game in just two contests. The Crimson Hawks are relying heavily on their starters, as the bench has only combined for a total of 14 points in those two games. Gr. G
Jesse Bosnik (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic) has accounted for six of those points, while So. F
Kalusha Ndoumbe Ngollo (Paris, France/Saint Andrews) and R-Fr.
Cornell Yarde II (Reading, Pa. /Schuylkill Valley) have each recorded four.
PSAC DOMINANCE
This will be the first PSAC action for the Crimson Hawks and the Mountain Cats this season. After winning three of the last four conference championships, IUP was again picked to finish first in the western division. The Crimson Hawks also had two PSAC Preseason All-PSAC West team members in Keita and Souberbielle. Pitt-Johnstown enters its first season in the conference after competing in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Mountain Cats were picked to finish fifth in the west.
