IUP Men’s Basketball to Retire Darryl Webb’s No. 15 Jersey on Wednesday

Darryl Webb will become the first player in IUP men's basketball history to have his number retired
INDIANA, PA – Two-time All-American and 2011 Division II Player of the Year Darryl Webb will become the first player in IUP men's basketball history to have his jersey retired this Wednesday night at the KCAC.

A banner featuring Webb and his No. 15 jersey number will be displayed in his honor during a pregame ceremony prior to the Crimson Hawks game with rival California. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the IUP women's game.

“We are very proud to honor Darryl Webb by retiring his jersey number,” said IUP head men's basketball coach Joe Lombardi. “Darryl has definitely earned the honor of being the first player in IUP men's basketball history to receive this distinction.

“His past individual success of being the school's career leading scorer and rebounder are impressive in their own right, but the unselfish way that he approached his career and the impact that he had on his team's success is what truly separates Darryl from the many great players in the rich tradition of IUP men's basketball.”

A forward for IUP from 2007-2011, Webb led the Crimson Hawks to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (2009-11), two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference titles (2010-11), an appearance in the national championship game (2010), and trips to the Elite Eight (2011) and Sweet Sixteen (2009).

Individually, Webb finished his career as IUP's all-time leading scorer (1,949 points) and rebounder (1,214), racking up a program record 162 blocked shots to go along with 136 steals, a 49.9 field goal percentage, 708 made field goals and 443 made free throws.

Webb was named NABC's Division II Player of the Year and PSAC West Player of the Year in 2011 while also earning All-American honors as both a junior and senior. He garnered All-PSAC West recognition all four years, including three times earning first team accolades.

He played in 126 career games, a school record at the time of his graduation, leading IUP to a record of 94-32 in his career.

Webb has continued his basketball career overseas; playing with Germany's Crailsheim Merlins in 2011-12 and is currently with Holland's Landstede Basketbal Zwolle where he averages 13.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
