Marcel Souberbielle (Montevideo, Uruguay/Uruguayan American School) at the buzzer bounced off the back of the rim as 14th-ranked IUP dropped a heartbreaker to rival Slippery rock 70-69 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) men's basketball showdown at Morrow Field House.
The loss drops the Crimson Hawks into a tie with Slippery Rock for first place in the Western Division as each team heads into their final regular season games on Wednesday night with identical 16-5 conference records.
Due to tiebreakers with Gannon, IUP will need a win over Lock Haven coupled with a Slippery Rock loss to the Golden Knights to regain the number one seed heading into the PSAC tournament which begins next weekend.

The final 2:36 of action was thrilling as the Crimson Hawks ran off seven straight points over a 1:25 span to make it a 68-65 game with 1:11 on the clock. The rebound off of his next miss would was awarded to IUP after going out of bounds and the Crimson Hawks would take advantage with a
Scooter Renkin (Midlothian, VA/Blue Ridge) three-pointer from the corner to make it a three-point game.
Slippery Rock was sent to the foul line twice but could only make one on each trip as a layup by Wells helped keep IUP within striking distance in the final minute.
Wells finished with a career-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting and five rebounds, while
Josh Wiegand (Whiteford, MD/John Carroll) also notched a career-high with 16 points and six boards. The Crimson Hawks shot just 41.8% from the field and went 5-of-23 from behind the arc as a team.
Devin Taylor paced the Rock with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Darious Clark chipped in 18 points, three boards and three assists. Slippery Rock was outrebounded by the Crimson Hawks 36-34, but turned it over just 11 times.
