AT A GLANCE
The number one seed in the PSAC West for the fourth consecutive season, the Crimson Hawks take on Edinboro in the quarterfinals of the 2012-13 PSAC Tournament after earning a bye in the first round. The Fighting Scots advanced thanks to a 65-60 win over Mercyhurst Saturday, but will face a tough task in a rested IUP squad.

Scooter Renkin (Midlothian, VA/Blue Ridge) had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead a standout senior effort as the Crimson Hawks defeated Lock Haven 93-66 to lock up the top seed in the West. Sr. G
Anthony Wells (Cleveland, OH/Shaker Heights) finished with 11 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals, while Sr. C
Josh Wiegand (Whiteford, MD/John Carroll) added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting with five boards and two blocks.
AGAINST THE SCOTS
IUP has been strong against Edinboro recently, notching a pair of wins over the Fighting Scots this season. The Crimson Hawks won 86-75 in late January before making it a season-sweep with a 78-70 win in February. The last time IUP and Edinboro squared off in the PSAC Tournament was in 2004-05, a quarterfinal matchup the Fighting Scots won 80-63.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Wiegand has been excellent for the Crimson Hawks in recent weeks, scoring in double-figures in four of his last five outings. The senior tallied a career-high 16 points against Slippery Rock last week and capped off his regular season with 11 points and six boards against Lock Haven on senior night.
BEST IN THE WEST
With a win and a loss by Slippery Rock on the final day of the regular season, the Crimson Hawks locked up an unprecedented fourth PSAC West title dating back to 2009-10. IUP won the PSAC title in 2010 and 2011, and advanced to the semifinals a season ago.
REGIONAL POLLS
The Crimson Hawks are ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Rankings, just behind PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg. Defending regional champ West Liberty claims the top spot in the rankings, while Winston-Salem State is slotted second. Fairmont State rounds out the top five.
THE HEAD COACH
Joe Lombardi (Youngstown State, '81) enters his seventh season as the head coach of the IUP men's basketball program after leading the Crimson Hawks to a third consecutive PSAC regular season title and an appearance in the NCAA tournament for a fourth straight season in 2011-12. Prior to his time with the Crimson Hawks, Lombardi served as an assistant coach at Saint Francis (PA), LaSalle, and the University of Pittsburgh. Lombardi has a career record of 144-64 at IUP.
