INDIANA, PA – The pitching of Cait Paine and the Bloomsburg bats were too much for IUP on Thursday as the Crimson Hawks dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central softball doubleheader at Podbielski Field.
Bloomsburg won the first game 6-0 in 10 innings and the second game 11-4.
The Crimson Hawks fall to 20-13 overall on the year and 3-7 in PSAC Central play while Bloomsburg improves to 24-10 and 8-2.
Paine had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning of game one, striking out a total of 13 batters in the complete game victory.
Tara Senn (Eagle/Downington East) was nearly as impressive through the first nine innings, giving up just five hits and striking out seven. The Huskies exploded for six runs in the top of the 10th, however, and shut down IUP in the bottom half for the victory.
It was more of a hitter's game in the nightcap, with IUP grabbing a 4-1 lead after the second inning. The highlight in the early going for the Crimson Hawks was a three-run triple to center off the bat of
Christi Mauk (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) in that second inning.
The bats would help up for the Huskies though, as they scored at least one run in each of the last five innings to finish off an eight-run win.
The Crimson Hawks return to the field on Saturday as they host another important doubleheader against PSAC Central foe Mansfield at 1:00 p.m.
