Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

INDIANA, PA - Locked in a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning in game two, Ashley Strack (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) smacked a walk-off RBI double to give the IUP softball team their second win of the day over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Edinboro Saturday. The Crimson Hawks coasted to a 7-0 win in game one before salting away the sweep with the 4-3 win in game two.

IUP 7, EDINBORO 0

After two scoreless innings to start the afternoon, the Crimson Hawks (13-8) would break through with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third. Jasa Mitchell (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) got the scoring started when she reached on an error that scored Brooke Green (Gettysburg/Gettysburg), while Strack added a pair of runs when she smacked a single to center.

IUP would tack on three more runs in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI double from Stephanie McCoy and a Stef Poates (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) walk with the bases loaded, and McCoy would add an insurance run in the fifth with a single to right that scored Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn).

The seven run advantage would be more than enough for hurler Alexa Campbell (Manheim/Manheim Central ), who scattered just six hits and struck out three in a complete game shutout. Roxanne Herrington took the loss for the Fighting Scots, surrendering three earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.

McCoy went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in game one, while Ward and Allison Viguers (West Chester/West Chester East) each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sarah Gustafson went 2-for-3 for Edinboro.

IUP 4, EDINBORO 3 (8 INNINGS)

The Fighting Scots (3-14) would come out swining early in game two, plating three runs in the first thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Ashley Black and Kylie Mason.

The lead would not last long, however, as the Crimson Hawks would score three runs of their own in the bottom of the second to knot it at 3-3 after two. Viguers, McCoy and Christy Mauk all had runs batted in for IUP in the inning.

Despite the hot offensive starts for both teams in game two, scoring would be at a premium after the first two innings. Pitchers Tara Senn (Eagle/Downington East) and Amanda Shields would settle in after their shaky starts, posting five consecutive scoreless innings each to force extra innings.

After a scoreless top half of the eighth, Jasa Mitchell (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) would set the stage for a rally in the bottom of the frame when she roped a single to left field to lead off the inning. Stef Poates (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) would reach on an error just a batter later to bring Strack to the plate with two on and no outs.

The senior would leave no doubt, blasting a double off the left field wall to bring home Mitchell and send the Crimson Hawks to their 13th win of the season. Strack went 1-for-4 at the plate in game two, while Mitchell and Kaylee Prendergast (West Chester/Villa Maria Academy) each had a pair of hits.

Senn notched the win for the Crimson Hawks, allowing just three runs on eight hits in eight innings. Shields was equally impressive in a losing effort, giving up just two earned runs in 7.0 innings in the circle.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Clarion in a doubleheader from Podbielski field. First pitch in game one is set for noon.
