Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Top-ranked West Chester scored two goals down the stretch, adding another one in overtime as sixth-ranked IUP fell to the Golden Rams 3-2 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey matchup on Saturday.

The Golden Rams (3-1, 1-1) benefitted from scrambles in front of the cage in the game's final minutes to tie the score at 2-2 with less than five minutes remaining. West Chester's first score came at the 58:15 mark with the second following with 4:09 to play. The game was ended 1:12 into sudden death overtime on a goal off of a corner play from Nancy Stehman.

The Crimson Hawks (1-3, 0-2) played tough defense from the outset as goalie Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) turned away West Chester opportunities in the IUP zone.

West Chester put together a total of 18 shots on the day, including 11 in the first half, but the IUP defense forced most of the shots wide of the cage while Shuker stopped three on her own.

IUP got on the board at the 14:46 mark of the first half when Brielle Mackey (Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) collected a rebound off the stick of Melanie Simmons (Harrison City/Penn Trafford) and hit the top corner of the cage.

It would remain that way for another 41 minutes of play until Jillian Duld (Allentown/Parkland) took a pass from Kiera Huntsman and beat the West Chester keeper in front of the cage with a shot to the lower left corner.

The Crimson Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Mansfield. Game time is set for 4 p.m. from George P. Miller Stadium.
