Crimson Hawks Drop Two in West Virginia Wesleyan Softball Tournament

SALEM, VA – Rachel Francis (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson) and Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) each went yard but the Crimson Hawks dropped both of their games on the final day of the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, Va.

The Crimson Hawks fell 9-4 to Winston Salem State and 8-2 to Concord. IUP finished the weekend 4-2 to run its record to 6-4 overall.

Francis picked up her homerun in the opener against Winston-Salem, her second of the weekend and third of the year. She finished 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Stefanie McCoy (New Paris/Chestnut Ridge) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored while Ward singled, walked twice and scored two runs.

Amanda Spindler (Brownsburg, IN/Cathedral) and Emily Hofman split time in the circle, giving up 12 hits and seven earned.

Ward knocked her solo shot in the fourth inning of game two, with the Crimson Hawks trailing 8-0. In the fifth inning, Megan Gould (New Germany/Forest Hills) led off with single but came around on a two-out base hit by Jasa Mitchell (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) for IUP's only other run.

Ward, Mitchell, Gould, Christi Mauk (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) and Meghan Carney (Corry/Corry) each had a hit in the game. Alexa Campbell (Manheim/Manheim Central ) got the start in the circle and went the distance, giving up nine hits and three earned runs.

This ends the Crimson Hawks' trip to Virginia as they are scheduled to return to Indiana to host Edinboro in the home opener on Friday.
