McCoy’s Walk-Off Double, Seven RBI Highlight Softball Senior Day

INDIANA, PA –

went the distance in the circle for the Crimson Hawks, improving to 13-7 on the season, striking out five and giving up four hits and one earned run.
 
Slippery Rock's lone run came on back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning. The Crimson Hawks then stranded five runners – two in the fifth, three in the sixth – in the next two innings as they tried to tie and take the lead. They would have a total of nine left on base by the end of the game, totaling eight hits and drawing a pair of walks.
 
McCoy picked up right where she left off in game two, blasting a three-run homer in the opening stanza to give IUP an early lead.
 
The Crimson Hawks tacked on two more in the third when Allison Viguers (West Chester/West Chester East) hit a two-run homer over the fence in right center, giving IUP a 5-0 lead.
 
Slippery Rock scored its run in the fifth on a pinch hit solo homerun by Emily Lobdell, the game one starter in the circle. IUP responded with a pair in the sixth on a two-run single by McCoy, who finished the doubleheader by going 4-for-8 with seven RBI.
 
Amanda Spindler (Brownsburg, IN/Cathedral) improved to 11-3 with the win for IUP, striking out three and giving up two hits and one earned run in six innings of work. Tara Senn (Eagle/Downington East) tossed the final inning in relief, striking out one.
 
As mentioned, IUP will be matched up with Shippensburg in the first round of games in the 2014 PSAC Championships in Quakertown. The two will play on Thursday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m.
