INDIANA, PA – After leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in RBI and boasting an impressive 3.94 cumulative grade point average, shortstop
Stefanie McCoy (New Paris/Chestnut Ridge) has been named to the 2014 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
The junior boasted the third highest GPA of the 12 players to make the list, composed of schools from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Mountain East and the PSAC. McCoy is currently studying exercise science.
This is the first Academic All-District honor for McCoy who started in all 47 games for the Crimson Hawks this season. Her .371 average is good for second on the team and 16
th in the conference. She led IUP with 16 doubles, recording 56 hits, one triple, three homeruns and a PSAC-leading 41 RBI. A perfect 11-of-11 stealing bases, she recorded a .550 slugging percentage and .438 on base percentage.
After being knocked out of the conference tournament by eventual champion California (PA), the Crimson Hawks have earned the chance to continue their season, competing in the NCAA Atlantic Regional and will head to site two host Shippensburg this weekend.
A double elimination tournament, IUP will kick things off taking on the Red Raiders of Shippensburg Friday at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game will move on to play the winner of the West Virginia Wesleyan vs. Mansfield game at 11 a.m. on May 10, while the loser will face the loser of the West Virginia Wesleyan vs. Mansfield game at 1:30 p.m. on May 10.
