HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The 42nd-ranked IUP women's tennis team won its second straight match on Thursday with a 9-0 non-conference victory over Dickinson. It was also the Crimson Hawks' second consecutive shutout and third this spring.
IUP improved to 5-2 on the year with the win, including 2-2 during its time in Hilton Head.
The Crimson Hawks' perfect doubles side began started at the third spot as
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) and
Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) breezed to an 8-1 win over Sarah Cantor and Emily Sprague.
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) followed that up with an 8-3 win over Lauren Altschuler and Joana Nunes at one while
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) and
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) paired for an 8-1 win over Madison Parks and Stuart Lemay at two.
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) picked up IUP's first singles win, defeating Sprague 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth spot.
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) then handled Cantor 6-0, 6-1 at four and
Katrine Gransoe (Holte, Denmark/KNORD HHX) blanked Lizzi Marin 6-0, 6-0 at six.
IUP's top three singles players also had an easy time handling the Red Devils, as Timko beat Nunes 6-1, 6-1 at one, Gonzalez defeated Parks 6-0, 6-3 at two and McCormick beat Lemay 6-1, 6-0 at three.
The Crimson Hawks will wrap up their time in South Carolina on Thursday with an 8 a.m. match against Michigan Tech.
