Women's Tennis Travels to Bloomsburg for PSAC Individual Championships

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team heads to Bloomsburg University to compete in the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference individual tennis championships from October 7-9.

Four current Crimson Hawks have previous PSAC Individual Championship experience as seniors Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset, U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School), Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon), Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord), and junior Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) enter the tournament knowing what to expect. Senior Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium), looks to play in the PSAC Individual Championship for the first time since joining the program.

The freshman trio of Ekaterina Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12), Annie Neurohr (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem), and Mariana Valenzuela (Colombia/George Berkeley School) look to compete in their first career league individual championships.

Butland
Butland enters the weekend with a career tournament record of 11-11 in singles play while going 12-12 in doubles play. She advanced to the semifinal round of last season's PSAC singles tournament. She and Gonzalez advanced to the semifinals of the doubles tournament last season at the PSAC championship.

Gonzalez
Gonzalez begins play at this year's PSAC Individual championship with a career tournament record of 15-11 in singles play and 12-9 in doubles competition. She teamed with Butland to advance to the doubles semifinals of last year's individual championships. Gonzalez reached the quarterfinals of the singles draw at the 2014 PSAC Individual Championships.

Wood
Wood comes into the tournament with a 12-14 career record in singles play while going 7-10 in doubles play. She advanced to the second round in singles play in the 2013 PSAC Individual Championships.

von Agris
von Agris enters the weekend with a 16-10 career mark in singles play while recording a 17-9 career record in doubles tournament play. In 2015 von Agris advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play of the PSAC Individual Championships. She advanced to the doubles semifinals but was not able to compete.

Petercakova
Petercakova heads into the weekend with a career tournament record of 5-3 in singles competition while tallying a career mark of 8-3 in doubles play. She advanced to the third round of the ITA Atlantic Region Championships back in September. Petercakova partnered with von Agris as the duo claimed the consolation championship at the Atlantic Region championship.

Minchenkova
Minchenkova begins play this weekend with a 3-1 career record in singles play while going 2-2 in her early career in doubles tournament play. At the Atlantic Region Championships, she advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play.

Neurohr
Neurohr enters the weekend with a 2-3 career mark in tournaments in singles play while going 1-3 in doubles tournament play. She advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships in singles play before teaming with Valenzuela in doubles play where the duo advanced to the second round.

Valenzuela
Valenzuela has a career singles tournament record of 5-3 while posting a career mark of 1-3 in doubles tournament competition. After falling in the first round in singles play at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships, she advanced all the way to the consolation bracket championship by rattling off four consecutive victories.
