STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Senior
Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) finished fifth in the 5000 meters while sophomore
DJ Horton (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) hit an NCAA provisional in the pole vault, as several IUP track & field athletes competed in the Penn State National Open on Friday.
Beaudette crossed the line with a time of 15:07.53, a mark that is currently the third fastest time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Horton cleared 4.91 meters, which is a Division II provisional qualifying mark and the top height in the league this year. It was the eighth best height cleared on Friday.
Beaudette and Horton were joined by
Carly Petney (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) and
Jenna Lezanic (Indiana, Pa./Marion Center), who competed in the 60 and 5000 meters, respectively.
Petney finished 27th in a fast women's 60 meter prelims, finishing with a time of 7.93. Lezanic posted a career-best 5000 time of 18:12.87, which was 16th overall and the fourth best time in the conference this season.
