ORLANDO, Fla. – The 28th-ranked IUP women's tennis team continued its tough Florida schedule, falling to No. 34 North Georgia by a score of 6-3 on Thursday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks are now 5-3 on the season while North Georgia improved to 11-3 with the win.
Two of IUP's wins came in singles play, with
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) and
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset, U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) securing victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Minchenkova's match went to three sets with a score of 7-5, 1-6, 6-2. Butland won easily, 6-2, 6-2.
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) lost in two, but she went the distance as both were by tiebreakers, 7-6 (13-11), 7-6 (8-6).
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) took down North Georgia's top team by a score of 8-6.
