INDIANA, Pa. – IUP collected its second shutout in as many days as the 35th-ranked Crimson Hawks defeated visiting Edinboro 9-0 at the Maple Street Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
IUP improved to 10-4 overall with the easy win, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division. Edinboro, the 10th-ranked team in the Atlantic Region, falls to 7-3 and 1-1.
RESULTS
The Crimson Hawks dropped just two games in doubles action, with the 16th-ranked duo of
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) picked up an 8-0 win at No. 1.
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset, U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) also won 8-0 at No. 3, while
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) had an 8-2 at the second spot.
All six singles wins came relatively easy for the Crimson Hawks. Petercakova won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1; von Agris picked up a 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, Gonzalez won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3; Wood tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4; Minchenkova won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5; and Butland finished things off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Crimson Hawk players extend personal win streaks
In addition to IUP's streak of five straight wins, several players also have personal win streaks still active. Butland has the longest singles streak with six, while Gonzalez and Wood have each won five straight. On the doubles side, the No. 2 team of Gonzalez and Wood have a six-match win streak.
