WEEKEND AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks open their 2017 season with a pair of non-conference away games against Lindenwood and Bellarmine this weekend. IUP kicks things off against the Lindenwood Lions on Friday at 5 p.m. and will face the Bellarmine Knights the following day, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium, in St. Charles, Mo.
 
STORYLINES/WHAT TO WATCH FOR
*IUP is coming off a PSAC tournament appearance, earning the sixth seed before falling to third seed West Chester in the quarterfinals; Lindenwood captured its first ever East College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament title last season after shutting out Limestone while Bellarmine finished third in the ECAC Championship Tournament against Mercy College
*IUP was picked to finish seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) preseason poll; Lindenwood chosen to finish at first and Bellarmine a close second behind Lindenwood in the ECAC
*The Crimson Hawks return 13 players from last year's squad that finished with a 10-8 record; returning players combined for 21 of the team's 28 goals a season ago
*Sr. GK Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) steps back in the cage for IUP, as she approaches her final season; Lerda posted two shutouts and had a season-high of nine saves against second-ranked Shippensburg and against West Chester in the first round of the PSAC tournament
* Jr. D Emma Smiley (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) returns for the 2017 season; Smiley earned All-PSAC honors a season ago and started 35 straight games in two seasons with the Crimson Hawks; SR D Mary Ringwald comes back for Bellarmine; Ringwald was a First Team All-ECAC performer at "center-back" position, with a recorded seven defensive saves to rank third in the nation
