INDIANA, Pa. – IUP field hockey comes in at No. 9 in the latest NCAA Division II NPI rankings released Monday.
The Crimson Hawks, who are 7-3 on the season, are one of eight Atlantic Region teams that make up the top 10 of the rankings. A total of 34 Division II field hockey programs are included in the latest NPI rankings.
IUP enters the rankings with an NPI rating of 56.578, placing the Crimson Hawks among the top teams in Division II as the regular season moves into its latter stages.
The NCAA Power Index, or NPI, takes into account team performance, strength of schedule and game results. The rankings provide a snapshot of where teams stand nationally based on their results and the strength of their opponents throughout the season.
Kutztown holds the top spot in the latest rankings with an NPI rating of 69.211.
The Atlantic Region has a strong presence throughout the top of the rankings, with eight of the top 10 teams coming from the region. IUP's No. 9 position puts the Crimson Hawks firmly among that group as they continue through the remainder of their regular-season schedule.
With 34 Division II programs appearing in the rankings, IUP sits inside the top third of the national field and will look to continue strengthening its postseason résumé over the remaining weeks of the season.
