LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP senior midfielder Sydney Schmouder became the first Crimson Hawk field hockey player to earn PSAC Athlete of the Week honors this season following her defensive and all-around performance in Sunday's conference victory over Millersville.
Schmouder made her presence felt almost immediately in the rainy conditions at George P. Miller Stadium, recording a defensive save less than three minutes into the game to keep Millersville off the scoreboard.
The defensive save came following a scramble in front of the cage that took freshman goalkeeper Kaelin Koehler out of the play. Schmouder stepped in behind the defense and kept the Marauders from taking an early advantage.
The senior continued to impact the game on both ends of the field, taking all eight of IUP's penalty corners in the 2-1 victory.
Schmouder also recorded an assist on Grace McGeehan's game-winning goal. The assist was Schmouder's second of the season, tying her for second on the team.
Her performance helped IUP secure its first PSAC victory of the season and improve to 7-2 overall.
