INDIANA, Pa. – IUP men's basketball players
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) and
Anthony Glover, Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) have been named the IUP Athletes of the Week, which was announced by the IUP Sports Information Office on Monday morning.
The duo helped lead the Crimson Hawks to a 2-0 week with an 89-82 road win over California (Pa.) on Wednesday and a 69-46 win over Clarion at home on Saturday. The helped the surging Crimson Hawks improve to 14-5 overall and a division-leading 10-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record.
Diaz, a junior forward, averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game last week, shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line. He didn't turn the ball over in 63 total minutes, dishing out four assists with two blocks and two steals.
"Cobo" posted his ninth double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's win over Clarion, converting 7-of-12 shots from the field. He finished with 17 points and nine rebounds against Cal.
It was Cobo's first IUP weekly award of the season and the sixth in his career.
Glover averaged a team-best 26.0 points and shot 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the field last week. He made 9-of-21 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 from the foul line with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Glover was the main offensive catalyst in the Crimson Hawks' 89-point performance at Cal, scoring a game-high 32 on 10-of-15 shooting. He also went 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 6-of-6 at the foul line. It was Glover's third 30-point effort of the year and the third time he's hit at least six treys in a game.
This is Glover's third straight weekly honor and the fourth of his career.
