Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The IUP softball team opened up play at The Spring Games at Legends Way Ballfields with losses to Augustana (S.D.) and Queens (N.Y.) Monday night. The Crimson Hawks lost to Augustana 7-4 and to Queens 8-0.
Kaitlyn Beers (Reynoldsville, Pa./DuBois Area High School) and
Bryanna Lonick (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) each went 2-3 in the opening game, but it was
Lauren Goetz (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) who opened the IUP scoring in the second inning with an RBI double that scored
Amanda Parrish (Dysart, Pa./Altoona). With IUP trailing 4-1 in the fourth inning, Lonick cut the deficit with a solo home run.
It became a one-run ballgame in the fifth with a
Renee Wall (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) sacrifice fly, scoring
Olivia Gregorich (Sidman, Pa./Forest Hills) from third. Gregorich led off the inning with a single and moved up after a Beers' walk and sacrifice bunt by
Alaina Montgomery (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield).
Trailing 7-3 in the seventh, a double from Beers put runners at second and third with one out. A sacrifice fly by Montgomery made it a three-run game, but the Crimson Hawks failed to bring any more across.
Lauren Zola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) started in the circle, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.
In the Queens loss, Wall had the Crimson Hawks' lone hit.
Megan Risinger (Creekside, Pa./Marion Center) started and went 3.1 innings, giving up all eight runs but just one was earned.
