LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — IUP men's basketball student-athlete
Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School) has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) Winter Top 10 team, which was announced Thursday afternoon.
Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The Top 10 Award is selected by the conference's sports information directors and given to five males and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter and spring.
Lombardi is a junior finance major with a 3.80 cumulative GPA. This is his first career PSAC Top 10 honor.
The 6-foot guard averaged 12.9 points per game and ranked third in the PSAC with 5.1 assists per game for the 2017-18 season. He increased his shooting percentage by 50 points (.382 to .432) and had a .809 free-throw percentage and a .343 3-point field goal percentage. Lombardi scored in double-figures during 19 games, including four 20-point performances.
Lombardi reached a career milestone of 1000-points during IUP's game against California in February, finishing the season with 1,033 career points and 397 career assists. He was named to the All-PSAC West second team and the CoSida Academic All-District. He is a PSAC Scholar Athlete, three-time PSAC West honoree and was the 2016 Freshman of the Year.
IUP is tied for fourth with East Stroudsburg in PSAC history with 54 all-time top 10 winners. Shippensburg University leads with 65 all-time winners with Slippery Rock (61) in second and Clarion (57) in third.
