STOW, Ohio – The Crimson Hawks saw their six-match win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to No. 22 Grand Valley State indoors at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.
Grand Valley State came into the match ranked third in the strong Midwest Region and are coming off back-to-back wins over Division I opponents.
RESULTS
The Crimson Hawks (12-4) picked up wins at the top two singles spots from
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium). Petercakova won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 while von Agris picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Von Agris exacted some revenge over her opponent, Alexa Sweeney, who had won each of the last two meetings between these two players.
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) went to three sets at No. 4 before ultimately falling 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Grand Valley State (21-3) opened the match with three close victories in doubles competition.
Mariana Valenzuela (Bogotá, Colombia/George Berkeley School) and
Julia Newman (Tauranga, New Zealand/Tauranga Girls' College) lost 8-4 at No. 3,
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) and Beidacki fell 8-6 at No. 2, and Petercakova and von Agris lost 8-5 at No. 1.

This was the first of two matches this weekend against competition from the Midwest Region. The Crimson Hawks will square off against No. 44 Wayne State Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
