WEEKLY NOTES

IUP Field Hockey enters important final week of regular season
The IUP field hockey team (8-8, 3-5 PSAC) heads into the final week of the regular season needing important wins to keep its postseason hopes alive. The Crimson Hawks host Mercyhurst Wednesday night before heading to 4th-ranked Kutztown Saturday. IUP heads into the final week of the regular season in a three-way tie for sixth in the PSAC standings, the last spot for a playoff berth. The Crimson Hawks have lost each of their last two conference games to ranked opponents while Mercyhurst has lost five straight and Kutztown has won three in a row.

QUICK HITS
>> IUP is tied with Millersville and Bloomsburg for sixth in the PSAC standings with a 3-5 league record. Millersville owns the tiebreaker with IUP with a head-to-head win, Bloomsburg owns the tiebreaker with Millersville and IUP owns the tiebreaker with Bloomsburg.
>> The top six teams in the final PSAC standings advance to next week's conference tournament. West Chester (8-0), East Stroudsburg (8-1), Shippensburg (7-2) and Kutztown (6-2) have already clinched spots, while Mansfield (5-3) currently sits in fifth place.
>> The Crimson Hawks are looking for the program's first postseason berth since 2016 when they went 10-8 and 5-5 in the league. IUP defeated Kutztown 1-0 on the final game of the regular season that year to clinch a playoff berth.
>> IUP is 2-10 against the Lakers since 2012, including a 2-1 shootout loss in a non-league matchup back in September in Erie.
>> It's been the opposite fortune for the Crimson Hawks in their series with Kutztown as they are 9-3 against the Golden Bears dating back to 2010. Two of those three losses have come in the last two seasons - 2-1 in 2018 and 3-2 in 2017.
>> If the Crimson Hawks advance to the PSAC tournament, the No. 3-4 seeds will host quarterfinal games Tuesday, November 5 and the No. 1 seed will host the semifinals and championship Friday, November 8 and Sunday, November 10.
