Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – After a pair of high-scoring affairs on Monday, the Crimson Hawks lost two games with low scores Tuesday afternoon at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. IUP fell to Truman State 5-1 and Shepherd 2-1.
In the opener the Crimson Hawks fell behind in the first but tied the game in the bottom half on an RBI double by
Brooklyn Kotula, scoring
Lauren Goetz.
Truman State added two runs to regain the lead the following inning, adding one more in both the fifth and seventh innings.
IUP put together a good scoring chance in the sixth when
Kaitlyn Beers blasted a two-out double. But she was left stranded one second.
The Crimson Hawks scored first in game two on a misplay by Shepherd. Beers led off the second inning with a single and moved up on a sacrifice bunt from
Jenna Rhue. She moved up to third when Goetz reached on an error, then scored when Goetz attempted to steal and the play at second was bobbled.
Shepherd tied the game in the third and took the lead with an RBI single in the sixth.
IUP again had a chance late with back-to-back walks to lead off the seventh inning but neither runner came across the plate and the Crimson Hawks lost by one.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks (3-7) have an off day before returning to action Thursday with games against Auburn University at Montgomery and Bemidji State. Including Thursday's game, IUP has six games left in Florida and return home Sunday.
